Santorini, Greece

September 29, 2005

We're in Santorini - just a quick post to let you know where we are.

Nichole added a fantasic update for Istanbul - you should all go read it!

LUKE:
So, we had a great time on Santorini! We had a scooter to buzz around the island on, so we got to see a lot more stuff. We spent a healthy amount of time on the beach, which was really nice. It's also the end of the tourist season, so things are really quiet (not to mention much cheaper).

One of the real highlights was having dinner the second night. We had taken the scooter to the far side of the island to see the town of Oia. On the way home, we were hoping to find a nice place to watch the sunset over the caldera (a Santorini must-see), when we passed a place called "Senor Zorbas". So we had real, legit mexican food on the rim of the caldera, with a wall full of colorado licence plates, and Los Lobos on the stereo. It was downright fantastic!

Santorini is a visually stunning place, with the whitewashed buildings hanging like frosting on a big chocolate cake along the rim of the caldera. Crazy churches everywhere. Dramatic black sand beaches (and some white ones, and one red beach).

Overall a lovely few days!
