Crete, Greece

October 3, 2005

This our last stop on the islands of Greece and after just 2 days here we are kicking ourselves that we won't have more time on this lovely island. We took the high speed ferry from Santorini to Crete Saturday night and then stayed in Iraklio (the port city and capital) until Monday when we could pick up Luke's drivers license from the courier. We had left it on Naxos at the scooter rental place and we couldn't rent a car until we had it. While in Iraklio we walked to the archeological museum where we got to see many of the Minoan findings from the Palace at Konosos. Really wonderful!

This morning we were on our way across the island and we were going to be driving for the first time in 2 months. We got a cute, tiny, blue car with a roll-back top and after 2 hours of driving by me and we arrived in Hania. We're glad we're here as this is a much smaller city (50,000) and is it much more our style. Luke found us a great place to stay with a huge room, private bathroom and fridge and a computer cafe downstairs which is perfect because today is Monday which means phone conference/meeting with Quintess (Luke's main client)at 22.00 hr (1:00pm Colorado time).

We walked the beautiful and winding sidewalks between the buildings of old town poking our heads into shops that caught our interests. Mostly this is my chance to see some of the great potters and jewelers of Hania while Luke read the guidebook! Tomorrow will begin with an early start and then we are off to the Samarian Gorge and National Park to go for a hike. We are both so excited to get out into the great outdoors and to see some more of this beautiful island.

The most exciting thing of all is that we found peanut butter at the grocery store tonight! We haven't found any since Croatia so this a huge deal and perhaps the best part of Greece so far!

Also, we found english Harry Potter books 4 and 5 on Naxos! I just finished 4 today and I can't believe how great it was! I am starting on 5 when I get off the computer tonight.

Nichole + Harry Potter = Love Forever

LUKE:
I just updated the Santorini entry and added more pics. More pics for Naxos too. :)

Good stuff. Post more pics of Naxos - that place is purty. Cooper turned one a few weeks ago, he says hi. Nervous about going to Indo? Don't be. There's idiots all over the world - so nowhere is safe :) Have fun and fall in love (after all it is your honeymoon)...

Obie's right, Naxos is purty! We called to wish Coop happy birthday. We were a couple days late, but we got to talk to Mum and Shelbey (Cooper got a few noises in too). I think we're still going to go to Bali.

if you can change plans, try some place in indo thats more obscure. go to the mentawai islands off sumatra. you already know what bali is like - busy.

I think I forgot to submit my last message... great pictures, and I thought you would like Crete.... and as always, wish for more time. Looking forward to seeing you in Paris in a couple of weeks.
