Ales, France

October 10, 2005

At last, we're safe in the refuge of the French countryside. Our wonderful friends Marilyn and Michele picked us up at the train station, and we're sitting down to a lovely home-cooked meal.

Sorry the updates have been sparse. We've been travelling a lot, and it's been tough to keep up. Rome was amazing, we had a great time. I'm sure Nichole will give a great update at some point.

We're having a fantastic time here in Southern France. To be staying in a real home is such a treat, not to mention having great hosts! Marilyn & Michele have been so good to us, and feeding us so well!

On Tuesday we went to the local market in St. Amboix, which was so cool. We had great food, and had a taste of real France for sure. Wednesday, Michele took us to Trebuc caverns where he works as a guide. Lucky for us, we were the only ones there, and we got our own personal guided tour of that incredible underground world. Wait until you see the picture of that!

Today, we went to see Marily & Michele's old friend Tao, who lives off-the grid (in every sense) in the country. Such a lovely visit, and great memories for me since we have visted Tao before when I was a kid.

We're not really ready to leave, but we really want to visit the area around Grenoble before we head on to Paris, so to stay on track, we'll probably have to head out soon.

love to everyone,
L&N

Wow! I just discovered this site (after seeing your magnet so neatly posted on my 'frig'). You two have been busy little bees out there in the world! I love all of the commentary and the pics. OH...I am so excited to follow the rest of your travels. B

I can't tell you how much I wish I was there with you all, esp. for the visit to Tao. I too have very fond memories of our time there with him when you were young Luke and then visits in later years. Enjoy the very wonderful French country life extra for me. The Aussie just don't have the same flavor.

Some travelling friends are up Maclaud Ganj where you are heading and loving the mountains. We head to Nepal tomorrow. we have sent emails to Nichole's address hope you get them.
