Luke and I drove up the coast to the Town Of 1770 where we took an all tour day of the Great Barrier Reef at the Fitzroy Lagoon. It was a fantastic Christmas gift from Giff and Midra! Thanks so much again!

Our boat left at 8:00 am and we stayed out in the lagoon until leaving to return at 3:00pm. We took a quick break for lunch but got in plenty of *GREAT* snorkelling. A pod of dolphins greeted us as we entered the lagoon and then under the water we saw incredible fish and coral. We saw many types and colors of parrot fish, star fish, a scorpion fish, huge sea cucumbers (who poop white sand!), 4 little squids swimming together, many clown fish (Nemo!), stingrays, a big puffer fish, large schools of tiny neons (blue in our case), damsel fish, angel fish and many colors of giant clams. These clams looked like they were lined with violet, blue and brown velvet. Luke would dive under the water and get close to them and then they would close up really quickly.

We also saw fish that we don't know names of yet but we are calling one, "the magic carpet fish" because this small, flat, scarlet-red fish looked like a magic carpet flying through the water stopping on the coral as it went. The coral was brightly colored: blues, purples, yellows, pinks and oranges. It was so amazing!! The lagoon, being protected from the waves, was still and peaceful and we just floated along. Luke used a weighted belt so he could dive down to get closer looks at the really good stuff.

We have begun our drive back toward Sydney since we fly out on December 30th. We met up with Giff, Midra, Obie, Shelbey and Cooper in Coolangatta for a great pizza lunch (thanks Giff!). We found PB's Internet Cafe and we're typing off a bit before heading further south tonight.

Sorry we don't have more pics but we didn't have an underwater camera.

More soon! Love to you all.

Nichole and Luke
