Pliskovica, Slovenija

August 28, 2005

So, we made it to Maribor and Tanja & Andrej met us at the train station. So great to see a familiar face! We stayed at their apartment in central Maribor Friday night, then Saturday, drove towards the coast for some touring of Slovenija. We visited an amazing castle that was built into a cave on the side of a cliff. Very cool place with a 15km cave network behind it. There was one Guy who lived there & his enemies were trying to force him out, and they tried for a year to starve him out. He taunted them by sending them gifts of roasted meat and fresh cherries. They got so mad because the could not figure out how he was getting all his food. Turns out he was escaping through the cave network to a farm on the other side of the hill for supplies. He was eventually betrayed by a servant who, while the Lord was visiting the toilet, shone a light for the catapult, and they lobbed rocks at that spot and killed him. Such a sad ending for him.

We stayed last night at a beautiful Youth Hostel in the countyside. It's a restored farmhouse from old Slovenija, and it's so beautiful. Too bad it's still raining on us.

we'll post pictures once we get back to Maribor tonight.

Love to everyone,
L&N
